Florida Seasons
Sometimes it's hard to even tell if Floridians
have an autumn or spring because summer's
heat and humidity often last six months
or more. As a tradeoff, winters are generally
mild. Florida skies are unusually sunny,
except for a short spring rainy season and
the daily thunderstorms that come and go
quickly in summer. Temperatures in Florida
are more moderate along the coasts, particularly
on the Atlantic side, which has a decent
sea breeze; the center of the state tends
to be a bit colder in winter and hotter
in summer.
Most enjoy vacations more when crowds are
thin and the weather is mild — spring
and fall in Florida. With the exception
of Orlando, rooms and (in some cases) other
expenses are cheaper during these seasons.
Florida Spring
Spring is a popular vacation time for
most travelers to Florida.
Here are some of the better reasons to go
to Florida in the springtime:
 |
The weather
is mild. |
 |
Spring is when Florida
really blooms. The entire of Florida
is covered in flowers. |
 |
Villas and Hotels
that give discounts give them during
the spring. |
 |
The lines at attractions
are relatively small compared to other
seasons. |
 |
The pollen drives
hay-fever sufferers crazy. |
 |
Spring break is soon.
Avoid it unless you're a breaker. |
Florida Summer
Florida bustles during the summer season
in spite of the sizzling temperatures.
Here are some points to consider:
 |
Beautiful,
picturesque sunrises and sunsets. |
 |
During August is
back-to-school sales at malls and outlets. |
 |
Air conditioning
is alive and well. Travelers spend the
middle of the day indoors |
 |
The heat and humidity
are oppressive. |
 |
Summer is also the
heart of hurricane season. |
 |
Usually no discounts
during this time of the year |
Florida Autumn
Autumn is a beautiful time of year to
visit Florida.
Here are some of the state's autumn bonuses:
 |
Florida
has the same fiery reds and brilliant
oranges and yellows as New England.
The difference is that in Florida it
doesn't last long. |
 |
You should find more
discounted accommodation this time of
year. |
 |
Lines and crowds
begin to shrink. |
 |
It's cooler, but
temps aren't as mild as those in spring
until Thanksgiving or later. |
 |
The hurricane season
lasts through November and activity
can run high in September and October.
|
Florida Winter
Winter brings visions of softly falling
snowflakes to most travelers, but that's
not the case in Florida. You should consider
the following when planning a winter vacation
in Florida:
 |
There
really isn't a true winter, just a few
days at or near freezing, followed by
mild, sunny weather. So leave those
winter blues back home. |
 |
Lines are short in
many tourist areas during most of the
winter season. |
 |
International and
snowbird visitors keep room rates reasonably
high along the coasts and in Orlando. |
 |
The mid-December
to early January holidays are nearly
as crowded as the dead of summer. |
 |
There's not much
northern holiday spirit. It's common
for temperatures to be in the 90s during
Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. |
 |
After mid-December
arrives, prices rise. |
